'Sowing the Seeds of Innovation' - 1st year of a five year carnival development plan uniting towns, cities and people across the UK and further a field.
Partners: Stockton Borough Council, Kinetika.
I was employed as part of a team of artists to and design and make costumes and props which would both represent each of the community groups working with me. Anything goes with carnival so long as your designs communicate your theme loudly and in the case of community groups, who are wearing and carrying the gear, expresses who they are too. My themes were 'communication' and 'footprints'.
This was a wonderful and challenging project to be involved with and a great opportunity to work with other talented artists.

 |
Creative Partnerships Enquiry Schools project working with Special Needs students in Yrs 7, 8 and 9 to develop and support their understanding of Maths: Pivats Scale National Curriculum Levels 1-8.
Partners: Priory Woods SN School, Middlesbrough, Creative Partnerships TV, WeeSpiders.org (managed and directed by myself and digital artist Oran Milstein).
Maths Moves was designed to enable children to learn about shape, space and measurement through movement, dance, creative play and digital media.
We used range of 'props' to investigate and create environments in which to learn as well go out on visits, do drama - play, take photos, make up dances and make a film. This project was all about finding new ways to learn, make active connections and explore some new territory. Out of this project has come a documentary film which was shown at the ARC in Stockton in front of which pupils performed their dances, specific lesson plans and a website which tells the whole story.
Working with these pupils was a joy…. click here to find out more.

Hummersea School Carnival Project |

|
 |
'Wow!': Stimulating Pupils through Carnival Arts.
Partners: Hummersea Primary, Loftus, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, Creative Partnerships Tees Valley.
This was a whole school project delivered over the spring term which involved all the staff as well as the children. The aim was to give each and everyone artistic inspiration, support and encourage creativity and provide a broad range of creative experience on which they could build whilst developing pupil led learning and pupil voice. Yr 3 pupils interviewed me for the job!
There were many smaller projects within the whole which included research, dance, drama and story, circus, costume, visual arts and crafts. Incorporated were two PD days for staff which focused on different art styles, materials and creative curriculum opportunities. As ideas grew, other artists were brought in to deliver and develop specialist areas and support the overall project. We ended on a high note with a procession, music and performances from every class including the staff!
